Breakaway Review

By Grace Reilly

Beyond the Play Series Book 2

Star rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Spice rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Blurb

This is the kind of book that you devour! It's pretty spicy but also incredibly sweet and full of character growth and an adorable cat.

I really enjoy the forbidden relationship trope, but I have trouble with it because I don't like relationships that are forbidden for ethical reasons that make a lot of sense to me. This is one where their relationship is forbidden but no one is harmed by it or put at risk.

I always enjoy spice lessons and I really liked that Cooper helped Penny overcome some of her traumatic memories. I also liked that there was an emphasis on it being ok not to be ok and allowing Penny to take her time and heal. It can really hard when mental health issues come up on a day that is supposed to be about someone else and I think this book handled that well.

If you like sports romance, spice lessons, men who think they don't like cats and then turn into cat dads or hockey romance this one is a must read! I immediately read the next one and am waiting impatiently for the 4th one in the series!

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️- This book is on the spicier side for a sports romance. Penny has a list of things she wants to try and they range from vanilla to not vanilla. There is a fair amount of backdoor action and some light BDSM.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
