Partners in Crime Review

By Alisha Rai

Star rating: ★★★★★

Blurb

Indian Matchmaking meets Date Night in this fun, romantic adventure in which a match-made couple about to be engaged gets caught up in a caper that puts their future—and lives—in danger.

At thirty-five, with a stable job as an accountant, Mira Chaudhary wants nothing more than to find a boring man to spend the rest of her life with. Having had enough excitement in her younger days and desperately trying to escape her dysfunctional past, she turns to a matching app specializing in Indian American singles to help her find someone to settle down with.

Enter Naveen Desai. An English professor with an uneventful, normal, and—dare she say it, boring—life, Naveen is perfect.

But just when things are going well, Mira receives news that her aunt has died. Suddenly a trip to Las Vegas to settle her aunt’s affairs turns into a mad dash to escape kidnappers, evade art thieves, and consorting with hackers who can decipher just what it was Mira’s aunt was involved with. Mira just hopes that Naveen isn’t chased away by the very same life of “excitement” that she’s been trying to get away from. But maybe, over the course of one wild night, Mira and Naveen will find the love connection that neither expected.

My Thoughts:

Partner's in Crime is an incredibly fun romcom about two exes who end up in a bad situation together. I picked this one because it sounded like the perfect combination of comedy and romance and wow did it deliver!

Alisha Rai took a situation that was perfect for comedy and took full advantage of it! I adored that whenever it seemed like things were going to end badly there was a comedic twist that saved the day. The story was clever and even after similar twists had already been used I didn't see them coming.

I also really enjoyed Naveen and Mira's relationship. Second chance doesn't always work for me but I think in this case, the breakup let them both learn lessons they needed to and come back together better. Naveen is a great hero and I adored her nerdy passion for escape rooms! I also loved that even in the context of fraught situations, their attraction was very apparent.

This book is perfect for fans of the Blonde Identity! It was my first Alisha Rai book but I'll be reading more!

I listened to the audiobook version of Partners in Crime and loved it. Soneela Nankani and Shahjehan Khan both did a great job! Sonella Nankani has also narrated several other audiobooks I enjoyed as well as popular titles including Shark Heart so you may find her voice familiar.
